Flushed AwayFlushed Away (2006)

IMDB rating: 7.10

Plot: Roddy is a decidedly upper-crust “society mouse” who lives the life of a beloved pet in a posh Kensington flat. When a sewer rat named Sid comes spewing out of the sink and decides he’s hit the jackpot, Roddy schemes to rid himself of the pest by luring him into the “whirlpool.” Sid may be an ignorant slob, but he’s no fool, so it is Roddy who winds up being flushed away into the bustling sewer world of Ratropolis. There Roddy meets Rita, an enterprising scavenger who works the sewers in her faithful boat, the Jammy Dodger. Roddy immediately wants out, or rather, up; Rita wants to be paid for her trouble; and, speaking of trouble, the villainous Toad—who royally despises all rodents equally, making no distinction between mice and rats—wants them iced … literally. The Toad dispatches his two hapless hench-rats, Spike and Whitey, to get the job done. When they fail, the Toad has no choice but to send to France for his cousin—that dreaded mercenary, Le Frog.

Why do many people pretend that George W. Bush's economic policies had anything to do with free markets?
http://www.heritage.org/Research/budget/ wm378.cfm

This old article from the conservative Heritage Foundation in 2003 discussed the "American Dream Downpayment Act," a piece of Republican legislation that helped to do away with downpayments and provided government handouts to people looking to become house speculators during the peak of the housing bubble.

There were a number of other examples of big government economic policies by the Bush Administration. One of the most prominent was Medicare Part D ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicare_Pr escription_Drug,_Improvement,_and_Modern ization_Act ). The Comptroller General at the time called it "…probably the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s." This program was responsible for the fact that Medicare is now running a deficit and on the verge of collapse in the near future.

Another piece of Bush big government economic legislation was the Sarbanes-Oxley Act ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarbanes-Ox ley ), the largest expansion of government regulations since the days of FDR (and to think, many delusional leftists claim that Bush "deregulated" the economy!).

Last but not least, there was No Child Left Behind ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Child_Le ft_Behind ), which doubled the size of the Department of Education, the same Department that the Republican platform used to advocate eliminating. In 1980, the Republican Platform said: "The Republican Party supports deregulation by the federal government of public education, and encourages the elimination of the federal Department of Education." ( http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index. php?pid=25844 ) In 1996, the Republican Platform said: "We will abolish the Department of Education, end federal meddling in our schools, and promote family choice at all levels of learning. " ( http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index. php?pid=25848 )

I am well aware of history and I am well aware of how the left has flushed the true history of the Great Depression down the memory hole. In 1932, the Democratic Party Platform strongly condemned Herbert Hoover’s big government policies and promised to REDUCE the size of government: (source: http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index. php?pid=29595 )

"We believe that a party platform is a covenant with the people to have [sic] faithfully kept by the party when entrusted with power, and that the people are entitled to know in plain words the terms of the contract to which they are asked to subscribe. We hereby declare this to be the platform of the Democratic Party:

The Democratic Party solemnly promises by appropriate action to put into effect the principles, policies, and reforms herein advocated, and to eradicate the policies, methods, and practices herein condemned. We advocate an immediate and drastic reduction of governmental expenditures by abolishing useless commissions and offices, consolidating departments and bureaus, and eliminating extravagance to accomplish a saving of not less than twenty-five per cent in the cost of the Federal Government. And we call upon the Democratic Party in the states to make a zealous effort to achieve a proportionate result.

We favor maintenance of the national credit by a federal budget annually balanced on the basis of accurate executive estimates within revenues, raised by a system of taxation levied on the principle of ability to pay."

Why does it always seem that those who hold to big government ideologies tend to ignore the facts?

because–the Republicans are panicking, so they’re trying to portray themselves as responsible, and Obama as a socialist, since that’s what many Americans fear.

the same thing happened in the 1900’s with the No-Nothing party accusing their opponents of being a bunch of "immigrants"

Just so people know. Anyone that will claim that Bush was a free market guy will be blocked by me.

I don’t care if you don’t care.

I’ve got no time for liars.

Because by pretending that Bush was a right-winger, they can say that the free-market failed, regardless of the real and true fact that it has never been tried here in America.

That’s what they read while cramming hot pocket after hot pocket into their mouths while screaming for their mom to find the remote. I agree, anyone who sees Bush as a fan of the free market is delusional. He loved big government and big spending.
